Society for Human Resource Management
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) at Old Dominion University, established in 1965, is the university’s longest-standing student chapter of the world’s largest HR professional society. Our mission is to acquaint students with the dynamic field of human resource management and employee relations by bridging classroom theory with real-world practice.
Through biweekly workshops, guest speaker events, and hands-on activities like resume building, interview simulations, and LinkedIn optimization, we prepare students for successful HR careers. Members gain insights from experienced faculty advisors, alumni, and local HR professionals while exploring critical topics such as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), workplace etiquette, and remote work trends. As two-time champions of the Virginia SHRM Case Competition, we pride ourselves on fostering a competitive yet collaborative environment where all students—regardless of major or experience—can thrive. Join our inclusive community of 100+ members to network, compete, and grow alongside peers and professionals.
